November 2006 - Cookieboy and Rodedawg head to Pintony's for Parts!
First time I got to see the Purple Pinto - What an Impressive site!
now a few words about his car.. from Pintony
In 1994 after the body shop that had my original 73 filed chapter 11 awaiting the paint..
I purchased this 1972 Pinto Sedan which now has the paint job on it instead.
I found the Purple Pinto in an auto trader ad from a fellow named Brian Bush.
I flew into the Oakland airport where Brian picked me up and drove me to where the pinto was stored.
I was told that it was RUST FREE and in GREAT running condition.
It was white and pretty much stock except for the engine and some aluminum wheels from a Capri I think?
I found out later that my 72 started life Grabber Blue...
This was my first trip to California so I decided to drive the 500+ miles south
on the PCH to Los Angeles. I drove home from California after spending 3 days driving 500 miles.
In Texas I hooked up with some truckers that were in a hurry and drove for hours at over 100 MPH.
Once I returned home I quickly went to work stripping the paint, interior and body
panels in preperation of the fresh Purple paint.
One summer later My Purple Pinto hit the road.
In the beginning the engine was a HOT 4 Barrel, Cammed, Firebreathing Machine.
The Purple Pinto attended the Duquoin IL Street Machine Nationals 1996-97-98
and many a cruze nights and shows.
In 2000 I twisted the flywheel off the crank and Purple Pinto went into hibernation for 5 years
during which time I bought the Now Famous 1972 Green Barry Manilow Pinto.
The Winter of 2005 I finally had enough parts to build the AK Miller Turbo 2.0
I wanted to go to the Knottsberry, CA Car Show for years so I put some things on hold
and dedicated my resources to getting the turbo installed and Pinto ready to make
the 4000+ mile round trip.
In 2006 Ben, my oldest son, and I co-drove the Purple Pinto into history.
Maybe the best road-trip driven in a Pinto in two decades.
The Purple Pinto returned to Knottsberry in 2007 but this time it was trailered as I made it a family trip.
The Purple Pinto sits in the dark now with the other Pintos waiting for the cover to be removed.
washed and waxed and Polished for the next show season...
